The Detroit Tigers conclude their series with the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.
The Detroit Tigers have their work cut out for them if they expect to challenge Kansas City for the top spot in the American League Central. The Tigers job got tougher with Tuesday’s 10-2 defeat at Tropicana Field as ace David Price was charged with five runs on seven hits including a pair of homers over six innings. The offense logged nine hits and a free pass with Yoenis Cespedes cracking a solo jack while Jose Iglesias singled in Alex Avila. Justin Verlander shoots for back to back quality starts when he faces Tampa Bay on Wednesday. Verlander threw the ball well in a 2-1 loss at Boston with a run scored on seven hits over eight frames.

Tampa Bay fell from first in the American League East and have yet to get their feet back under them. The Rays are hoping to build a hot streak following Tuesday’s win which gave the team consecutive victories. Jake Odorizzi came up big with a solo homer allowed through six frames while whiffing eight to pick up the win. TB logged eleven hits and a trio of BB with Curt Casali smacking a pair of homers and driving in three while Evan Longoria went solo. Tim Beckman was 2-4 with four RBI’s with Steven Souza and Asdrubal Cabrera combining for five runs. Tampa Bay hands the ball to Chris Archer for Wednesday’s start against the Tigers. Archer was outstanding in a 3-1 win versus Baltimore with the lone run plated on five hits while striking out nine in six innings.
The over is 15-5-1 in Detroit’s last 21 road games and is 34-15-2 in their last 51 overall while the Tigers are 0-8 in Verlander’s last 8 starts. The under is 8-1-4 in Tampa Bay’s last 13 overall and is 7-1-3 in their last 11 on astroturf while the Rays are 3-7 in their last 10 games as a favorite. The over is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings and Detroit are 9-4 in Verlander’s last 13 starts vs. Tampa Bay. Verlander won’t lose forever but I’ll back the hotter pitcher here…
