The Milwaukee Brewers welcome the Chicago Cubs to Miller Park on Thursday night.
The Chicago Cubs have their sights on the postseason but they haven’t been playing well. The Cubs were struggling heading in to Wednesday’s bout with Colorado before pulling out a 3-2 victory. Pitching carried the day with Jon Lester allowing both runs on five hits while striking out 13 to improve to 6-8. The offense logged six hits and walked five times with Anthony Rizzo cracking a two run bomb while Dexter Fowler went solo. Jake Arrieta gets the ball Thursday for the second time against Milwaukee. Arrieta is coming off of a 5-0 loss to visiting Philadelphia where he allowed three runs on six hits and three BB over six innings.

The Milwaukee Brewers were playing solid baseball a few weeks ago but have slowed since. The Brewers are in need of a turnaround following a 5-0 loss at San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon. Starter Mike Fiers allowed a pair of runs through six fames with Will Smith giving up three runs during a five run 7th. The Brew Crew fell short with six hits and a base on balls with Gerardo Parra and Jonathan Lucroy each going 2-4 with a pair of singles. A hot Jimmy Nelson hopes to stay on a roll when he faces the Cubs in Thursday action. Nelson is coming off of a 2-1 win at Arizona where he tossed a five hit shutout over seven frames.
The over is 6-2 in Chicago’s last 8 overall and is 6-2 in their last 8 on grass while the Cubs are 7-3 in their last 10 road games. Milwaukee are 3-8 in their last 11 Thursday games and are 3-9 in Nelson’s last 12 home starts. The under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings. Neither team is really playing well enough to draw any interest from me but I’ll throw this out there…
