The Seattle Mariners collide with the Minnesota Twins in Friday night action at Target Field.
The Seattle Mariners haven’t been able to stay hot long enough to become a challenger in the American League West. The Mariners have dropped four in a row following a 9-5 loss at Target Field with the offense unable to overcome the pitching. Starter JA Happ was charged with seven runs (six earned) on nine hits including three homers over 3.1 frames. The M’s totaled eleven hits and walked twice with Austin Jackson and Seth Smith going deep and driving in two runs each with Jackson scoring twice. Taijuan Walker takes the hill for his first career meeting with Minnesota on Friday. Walker threw the ball well in a 6-5 win versus the Blue Jays with three runs plated on six hits and three BB in six frames.

The Minnesota Twins are right in the mix for a Wild Card berth but not unless they can break out of their slump. The Twins had dropped eight of ten before Thursday’s win that featured plenty of scoring with the pen saving the day. Starter Phil Hughes gave up all five runs on ten hits through five frames before three relievers held the Mariners off the scoreboard. The offense pounded out 13 hits and walked four times with Eddie Rosario going 3-3 with a homer, three RBI’s and three runs. Aaron Hicks homered and scored twice while Brian Dozier launched a solo jack. Left hander Tommy Milone hopes to turn his recent struggles around when he opposes Seattle. Over two starts Milone has given up a combined nine runs on nine hits including a whopping five homers in 11.2 innings.
The under is 12-3-1 in Seattle’s last 16 road games and is 10-4-1 in their last 15 Friday games while the Mariners are 8-1 in Walker’s last 9 starts. The over is 16-5-1 in Minnesota’s last 22 games as a favorite and is 7-1-1 in Milone’s last 9 home starts. The Twins need to keep the wins coming in and I think they have the edge here…
