The Rogers Centre and the Toronto Blue Jays host the Kansas City Royals in Friday action.
The Kansas City Royals have been on yet another hot streak as they expand their lead in the American League Central. The Royals had won four straight but have dropped two in a row after Thursday’s 5-2 loss at Toronto. Starter Danny Duffy was charged with all five runs on six hits including three homers over six frames to absorb the loss. The dangerous KC attack was held to just five hits with Kendrys Morales smacking a two run double that scored Lorenzo Cain and Eric Hosmer. Johnny Cueto makes his first start with the Kansas City Royals since coming over from the Reds. In his last start Cueto defeated Colorado 5-2 with four hits allowed over eight shutout frames.

The Toronto Blue Jays have made some trades that have made them instant threats in the American League East. It’s been so far, so good with the Blue Jays winning consecutive contests after Thursday’s win that featured strong pitching and hitting. Marco Estrada allowed both runs on only two hits through 5.2 frames with four relievers putting up zeros. The Jays logged seven hits and walked six times with Josh Donaldson, Russell Martin and Dioner Navarro going deep. The Blue Jays turn to Drew Hutchison for Friday’s start against the heavy hitting Royals. Hutchison did not get a decision in an 8-6 win at Seattle where he was charged with six runs on seven hits in four frames.
Kansas City are 17-5 in their last 22 games as a favorite and the under is 6-2-1 in their last 9 overall. Toronto are 1-7 in their last 8 games as an underdog and are 7-2 in Hutchison’s last 9 starts while the under is 6-2 in Hutchison’s last 8 on astroturf. Kansas City are 12-26 in the last 38 meetings in Toronto. The Blue Jays might be the team to beat now but I’ll back Cueto in his KC debut…
