The Miami Marlins and the San Diego Padres face off on Saturday in Miami as they continue their MLB series.
The Miami Marlins appear to once again be playing for next year as they lost to the Padres on Friday. Christian Yelich and Derek Dietrich each hit home runs and Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits as the Marlins scored three runs on five hits. Starting pitcher David Phelps allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out two over 5.0 innings to not factor in the decision as A.J. Ramos took the loss to fall to 0-3 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Marlins start Jose Urena who has allowed 43 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 19 over 42.1 innings for a 1-4 record and a 4.04 ERA.

The San Diego didn’t unload payroll at the trade deadline and it has paid off so far as they got the win on Friday in Miami. Jedd Gyorko and Will Venable each had three hits and Yangervis Solarte and Derek Norris each had two hits as the Padres scored eight runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Ian Kennedy allowed four hits and two runs while striking out five over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Brandon Maurer got the win after Craig Kimbrel blew the save. For Saturday’s game the Padres start Odrisamer Despaigne who has allowed 97 hits and 51 earned runs while striking out 51 over 96.1 innings for a 4-7 record and a 4.76 ERA.
Miami is 1-6 in game 2 of a series, 1-7 in their last eight games, and 2-5 in Urena’s last seven starts. San Diego is 7-1 against the NL East, 6-1 in their last seven road games, and 1-5 in Despaigne’s last six starts against a team with a losing record. San Diego has won their last five games against Miami.
I was a big fan of Despaigne’s but he has lost his game and until he finds it the pay is to fade him so that means taking the Marlins here.
