The battle for supremacy in the NL East continues Saturday when the Washington Nationals continue their series with the New York Mets.
The Washington Nationals were the favorite in the National League East but are getting a run for their money. The Nationals lost a valuable game in the standings following Friday’s 2-1, 12 inning defeat at Citi Field. Gio Gonzalez allowed a run over 4.2 frames for a no decision before Felipe Rivero served up a walk off jack in the 12th to absorb the loss. The Nats never got their offense untracked with Yunel Escobar singling in pinch runner Danny Espinosa with the lone run. Rookie Joe Ross is slated to be on the mound to oppose the Mets for the second time. Ross pitched well last time out in a 3-1 loss at Pittsburgh with all three runs plated on five hits of a 3-1 loss at Pittsburgh.

The New York Mets are a handful of games behind the Nationals in the National League East race so every game is important. The Mets picked a good time to end a two game losing streak as they picked up a game with Friday’s huge win. Matt Harvey was at his best with the lone run scored through 7.2 innings while striking out nine with five relievers tossing shutout baseball. Wimer Flores was the key to the offense with an RBI single that scored Juan Uribe before he hammered a walk off homer in the 12th. A red hot Jacob deGrom hopes to stay hot with the Nationals in town. DeGrom has been outstanding in his last three with just a pair or runs allowed on seven hits over 21.2 innings of work.
The Mets are 39-13 in their last 52 games as a favorite while the over is 8-3 in their last 11 Saturday games while the Mets are 3-7 in their last 10 Saturday games. Washington are 38-13 in the last 51 meetings in New York and are 51-19 in the last 70 meetings. Although this looks like another tight one I give deGrom the edge the way he throws at home…
