The Tampa Bay Rays hope to avoid the sweep at the Boston Red Sox on Sunday afternoon.
The Tampa Bay Rays have hopes of making a charge at the American League East lead but first they need to reach .500. The Rays fell to three games below .500 with Saturday’s 11-7 defeat at Fenway Park. Starter Matt Moore was charged with six runs on nine hits over three frames with three relievers giving up a combined five runs. Logan Forsythe paced a 13 hit attack with a 2-5 day with a homer and three RBI’s while John Jasco and Steven Souza scored two runs apiece. Nathan Karns takes the hill against the Red Sox for the second time on Sunday. Karns has won back to back contests with only one run scored on six hits over eleven innings.

The Boston Red Sox have a long road ahead of them if the want to reach .500 and that would be quite an accomplishment. The Red Sox notched win number three in a row following Saturday’s offensive explosion. The offense did need some runs with starter Joe Kelly allowing five runs on nine hits over five frames with three relievers allowing two runs. Boston pounded out 16 hits and walked five times with Travis Shaw going 4-4 with a pair of jacks with three RBI’s and five runs. Rusney Castillo knocked in three more while Xander Bogaerts went 4-5 with three RBI’s.Left hander Wade Miley gets the call to the mound Sunday to oppose Tampa Bay for the third time in 2015. Miley is coming off of a 9-4 loss to the White Sox where he was charged with seven runs on ten hits in 5.2 frames.
Tampa Bay are 1-7 in their last 8 games on grass and the over is 6-1-2 in their last 9 on grass while the Rays are 2-9 in their last 11 road games. The over is 12-3-1 in Boston’s last 16 Sunday games while the Red Sox are 4-12 in their last 16 overall and 4-12 in their last 16 games on grass. The under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings and is 21-8 in the last 29 meetings in Boston. If Odorizzi is pitching I’ll back the Rays…
