The Seattle Mariners visit Coors Field to face the Colorado Rockies in interleague action.
The Seattle Mariners have an outside shot at reaching .500 but they need to do a 180. The Mariners had lost five of six before downing Minnesota 4-1 at Target Field. The M’s got some adequate hitting and outstanding pitching behind starter Hisashi Iwakuma. Iwakuma allowed the lone run on a solo jack over 8.2 innings but did not get a decision. Nelson Cruz smashed homerun number 29 while Austin Jackson knocked in two more with pinch hitter driving in a run and scoring. The Mariners turn to Felix Hernandez in the opener who opposes Colorado for the first time. Hernandez comes off of a rare poor outing in an 8-2 loss to Arizona where he gave up seven runs on 12 hits in 6.2 frames.
USA TODAY Sports
The Colorado Rockies are looking for a winning streak to throw a Monkey Wrench in to the playoff plans of opponents. The Rockies gave the Cardinals all they could handle in a 3-2 loss on Sunday for their 4th loss in five contests. The bats struggled to support Yohan Flande on the mound who allowed two runs on four hit over five innings before Scott Oberg allowed the winner in the 9th. The bats totaled five hits and walked four times with Ben Paulsen driving in a run with DJ LeMahieu asnd Nolan Arenado each scoring. Eddie Butler toes the rubber against the Mariners for the first time in his career. Butler comes off of a 3-2 loss at the Cubs with all three runs plated on five hits and a trio of BB in five frames.
The under is 16-5-1 in Seattle’s last 22 road games and is 6-2-1 in their last 9 Monday games while the Mariners are 10-21 in their last 31 games as a favorite. Colorado are 16-54 in their last 70 interleague games and the over is 8-3 in their last 11 interleague home games while the Rockies are 9-23 in their last 32 games as an underdog. I’ll back the King here and hope he gets some runs to work with…
