The playoff hopeful Texas Rangers play host to the Houston Astros in Monday night action.
The red hot Houston Astros have snatched away first place in the American League West from the Angels. The Astros closed out their home stand with a 4-1 victory against Arizona for their 8th win in eleven contests. Collin McHugh kept the Diamondbacks offense I check with a run allowed on eight hits over seven frames. The Stros offense didn’t waste the effort with Evan Gattis smacking a solo homer while Carlos Gomez slapped a two run single while Chris Carter knocked in a run and scored. Rookie Lance McCullers opens the series on the mound for the first career meeting with the Rangers. McCullers comes off of a 6-3 win versus the Angels with a run plated on five hits in seven frames.

The Texas Rangers have the American League Wild Card in their sights and need to prevent lengthy losing streaks. The Rangers are hanging tough with a 2-1 win against the heavy hitting Giants on Sunday. Martin Perez was shutdown on the mound with the only run given up on two hits through 8.1 innings of work. The offense barely did enough damage on eight hits and three walks with Josh Hamilton cracking his 14th long ball for a two run homer with Mitch Moreland scoring. The Rangers turn to Colby Lewis on the bump Monday for his third match up of the season against Houston. Lewis defeated the Yankees 5-2 last time out with both runs plated on four hits over 7.1 innings.
The under is 8-0-1 in Houston’s last 9 road games while the Astros are 9-2 in their last 11 games as a favorite with the under going 6-2-1 in their last 9 Monday games. Texas are 4-13 in their last 17 home games and the under is 11-4-2 in the Rangers last 17 Monday games while Texas are 7-3 in their last 10 games as an underdog. Houston are 8-21 in the last 29 meetings in Texas and the under is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings. Houston seems like the obvious choice but I’ll back Texas here…
