The Colorado Rockies and the Seattle Mariners face off on Tuesday in game two of their interleague MLB series.
The Colorado Rockies hit the cover off of the ball on Monday but they still came up short against the Mariners. Charlie Blackmon had four hits, Nick Hundley had three hits, and Jose Reyes was among those with two hits as the Rockies scored seven runs on 18 hits. Starting pitcher Eddie Butler allowed seven hits and seven runs while striking out two over 4.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-8 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Rockies start Jonathan Gray who makes his first Major League start after going 6-6 with a 4.33 ERA in AAA this season.

The Seattle Mariners held off the late Rockies rally to get the win on Monday. Kyle Seager, Nelson Cruz, and Brad Miller each hit home runs as the Mariners scored eight runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Felix Hernandez allowed 11 hits and four runs while striking out nine over 6.2 innings to get the win and go to 13-6 for the season and Carson Smith earned his 10th save. For Tuesday’s game the Mariners start Vidal Nuno who has allowed 19 hits and five runs while striking out 19 over 21.1 innings all in relief for a 2.11 ERA.
Colorado is 7-4 in their last 11 home games, 1-5 in their last six games, and 0-5 in their last five interleague games against a left-handed starter. Seattle is 3-5 in their last eight games 11-21 in their last 32 games as a favorite, and 1-4 in their last five interleague games as a favorite.
While Nuno has only worked relief this season Coors Field is a tall order for a first time starter in the Majors making Seattle my pick here.
