The Toronto Blue Jays battle the Minnesota Twins at the Rogers Centre in Wednesday action.
The Minnesota Twins are locked in the battle for the Wild Card but have been struggling for consistency at the plate and on the mound. The struggles continued for another night in Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat at the Rogers Centre. The offense was quiet and a solid performance on the mound wasn’t enough with Phil Hughes giving up all three runs on five hits including a pair of bombs over 5.2 frames. The offense never got going on two hits and a trio of free passes that saw Torii Hunter hit a sacrifice fly that plated Brian Dozier. Rookie Tyler Duffey has been called up to make his major league debut against the Blue Jays. In 28 minor league appearances Duffey is 28-18 with a 3.24 ERA covering 82 outings.

The Toronto Blue Jays are heating up and trying to make a run in the American League East. The surging Blue Jays might be making a few teams worry as they notched their 5th win in six contests. Starter Marco Estrada improved to 9-6 with the lone run allowed on two hits and a pair of BB through 6.2 innings pitched. The Jays mustered seven hits and walked three times with Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Donaldson slugging solo homers. The Blue Jays send Drew Hutchison to the bump to face the Twins for the second time in 2015. Hutchison did not get a decision in a 7-6 win versus Kansas City with four runs plated in five frames.
The under is 9-1-2 in Minnesota’s last 12 road games while the Twins are 2-7 in their last 9 overall and 9-24 in their last 33 games on astroturf. Toronto are 6-2 in their last 8 Wednesday games while the under is 7-3 in the Blue Jays last 10 on astroturf and 7-3 in TOR last 10 home games. Minnesota are 8-21 in the last 29 meetings in Toronto and are 16-39 in the last 55 meetings. I’m not a Hutchison fan but he pitches better at home which is a good thing…
