The Arizona Diamondbacks conclude their series with the Washington Nationals on Thursday.
The Arizona Diamondbacks were one of the hottest teams in the National League West a few weeks ago but have since dropped three of four before pounding Washington 11-4. Rubby De La Rosa allowed two runs on only two hits and three free passes over five frames. The Snakes racked up 17 hits and walked four times with Welington Castillo leaving the yard and driving in three. Aaron Hill knocked in two while Ender Inciarte and Chris Owings scored twice. Jeremy Hellickson draws Thursday’s start against the Nationals for the second time in 2015. Hellickson is coming off of a 9-2 loss at Houston where he was charged with seven runs and three homers in 3.1 frames.

The Washington Nations are mired in a slide and that is bad timing with the Mets heating up. The Nationals continued to underachieve with Wednesday’s rout where the offense and pen were not competitive. Starter Gio Gonzalez gave up a pair of runs through five innings before Aaron Barrett, Matt Thornton and Felipe Rivero gave up three runs apiece in a mere 1.2 frames which is pathetic by any standard. The Nats managed seven hits with Michael Taylor going 2-4 with a pair of RBI’s but the offense never had a chance. Rookie Joe Ross takes the mound against the Diamondbacks for the first time on Thursday. Ross was a 3-2 loser at the Mets the last time out with two runs plated on solo jacks over 6.1 innings.
The over is 8-1-1 in Arizona’s last 10 games as an underdog and is 7-1-1 in their last 9 road games while going 6-1-1 in the Diamondbacks last 8 overall. Washington are 2-6 in their last 8 Thursday games and are 13-6 in their last 19 home games while going 37-18 in their last 55 games as a favorite. Arizona are 2-8 in the last 10 meetings. I’ll make this short and not too sweet…Nationals but no way I play them because they really don’t deserve the price tag…
