The Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers face off on Saturday at Safeco Field as they continue their MLB series of AL West teams.
The Seattle Mariners used the long ball on Friday to beat the Rangers in comeback fashion. Nelson Cruz, Robinson Cano, and Mark Trumbo each hit home runs as the Mariners scored four runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma allowed six hits and three runs while striking out six over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 3-2 for the season and Carson Smith earned his 11th save. For Saturday’s game the Mariners start Mike Montgomery who has allowed 64 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 56 over 76.1 innings for a 4-4 record and a 3.07 ERA.

The Texas Rangers grabbed the early lead on Friday but they were unable to hold on as they lost in Seattle. Rougned Odor, Mitch Moreland, and Josh Hamilton each had two hits as the Rangers scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Cole Hamels allowed eight hits and four runs while striking out seven over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-1 as a Ranger. For Sunday’s game the Rangers start Martin Perez who has allowed 24 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 11 over 20.1 innings for a 1-2 record and a 6.64 ERA.
Seattle is 7-3 in game two of a series, 2-4 in their last six home games, and 1-5 in Montgomery’s last six home starts. Texas is 4-1 in their last five games, 3-7 in their last 10 road starts against a left-handed starter, and 8-3 in Perez’s last 11 road starts. Texas has lost their last six games in Seattle.
I really don’t like either option here so I will default to the home team and take the Mariners.
