The Toronto Blue Jays shoot for the series sweep of the New York Yankees on Sunday.
The red hot Toronto Blue Jays have their sights set on first place in the American League East. The Blue Jays have won ten of eleven after a 6-0 win at the Yankees Saturday. David Price allowed three hits and three BB over seven scoreless frames to pick up the win and the bats made sure the effort wasn’t wasted. The Jays logged seven hits and walked twice with Justin Smoak smacking a grand slam with Troy Tulowitzki going solo while Jose Bautista scored twice. Marco Estrada takes the hill against the New York Yankees for the second time this year. Estrada has won back to back contests after defeating Minnesota 3-1 where he allowed the lone run on two hits over 6.2 frames.

The New York Yankees are trying to ward off the Blue Jays in the American League East and have had no luck in the first two games of the series. The Yankees never got the bats going and the work on the mound well short of the mark in Saturday’s defeat and now face the prospect of being swept by the visiting Blue Jays. Starter Ivan Nova surrendered a grand slam through 5.1 frames with Bryan Mitchell allowing two more. That was too much for the Yankees three hit, three walk attack to contend with Carlos Beltran the only player to reach base twice on a single and walk. Masahiro Tanaka toes the rubber versus visiting Toronto looking for back to back victories. Tanaka comes off of a 13-3 rout of Boston with three runs scored on five hits in six innings.
Toronto are 2-7 in their last 9 games as an underdog while the over is 8-3 in their last 11 Sunday games and is 5-2-2 in their last 9 road games. The under is 9-2 in New York’s last 11 home games while the Yankees are 23-9 in their last 32 home games and 17-8 in their last 25 games as a favorite. The Blue Jays are 14-38 in the last 52 meetings in New York. I suppose Tanaka should be able to at least control the Blue Jays but I’m not sure I would bet on him…
