Kauffman Stadium and the Kansas City Royals play host to the Detroit Tigers in Sunday action.
The Detroit Tigers are not going to win the American League Central so I can see the team giving a few pitchers a long look. The Tigers had won three of four before neither the arms or bats came through in a 7-2 loss to Boston on Sunday. Starter Justin Verlander allowed a pair of unearned runs over six frames before Ian Krol gave in four runs in the 8th. The offense was held to four hits but walked six times with Jefry Marte going solo while Victor Martinez singled in Rajai Davis. Rookie Matt Boyd toes the rubber for the second straight time against Kansas City. Boyd won his first ever game 2-1 versus the Royals with the lone run plated on seven hits over seven frames.

The goal for the Kansas City Royals going forward is to win the American League Central as soon as possible and then get ready for the postseason. That goal got a little closer with the Royals knocking off the White Sox 5-4 on Sunday for their third consecutive win. Starter Danny Duffy was charged with three runs on four hits through 3.1 frames with Kelvin Herrera allowing an 8th inning run to blow the save but ironically picking up the win. KC totaled ten hits and walked four times with Kendrys Morales launching a two run homer while Eric Hosmer drove in a run and scored. Johnny Cueto makes his third start for Kansas City looking for win number one as a Royal. Cueto faced the Tigers last time out in a 2-1 defeat with both runs given up on five hits and a pair of BB in seven innings.
The over is 18-6-2 in Detroit’s last 26 road games and is 35-14-2 in their last 51 on grass while going 34-14-3 in their last 51 overall. The over is 8-2-2 in Kansas City’s last 12 Monday games while the Royals are 20-7 in their last 27 games as a favorite and 18-7 in their last 25 Monday games. This is a rematch of a week ago and I’m hoping Cueto earns a win in a big way…
