The San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Tuesday at Petco Park in game two of their MLB Series.
The Padres didn’t get a lot of offense on Monday but it was enough to edge the Reds and get the win. Justin Upton hit a home run, Matt Kemp had a hit, and Derek Norris had a hit as the Padres scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Ian Kennedy allowed two hits and a run while striking out four over 5.0 innings to get the win and go to 7-10 for the season and Craig Kimbrel earned his 32nd save. For Tuesday’s game the Padres start Colin Rea who is the top pitcher in their farm system and who is 5-4 with a 1.95 ERA with 80 strikeouts in the Minor League this season.

The Cincinnati Reds simply couldn’t generate much offense as they took the loss in San Diego on Monday. Jay Bruce hit a home run, Brayan Pena had two hits and Brandon Phillips had a hit as the Reds scored one run on four hits. Starting pitcher David Holmberg allowed six hits and two runs hwile striking out five over 6.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-1 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Reds start Michael Lorenzen who has allowed 90 hits and 48 earned runs while striking out 64 over 89.1 innings for a 3-7 record and a 4.84 ERA.
San Diego is 1-6 in their last seven games, 1-5 against a right-handed starter, and 1-6 against a team with a losing record. Cincinnati is 29-64 in their last 93 road games, 4-13 against a team with a losing record, and 1-5 in Lorenzen’s last six road starts. Cincinnati is 1-6 in their last seven games in San Diego.
With the total at 7.5 the play for me here is the over and while it is just a lean it is my free pick for this one.
