The battle for first in the NL Central begins Tuesday when the Pittsburgh Pirates visit the St Louis Cardinals.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are hot and trying to mount a run at the Cardinals in the National League Central. The Pirates have won four straight after defeating the Dodgers 13-6on Sunday Night Baseball. Charlie Morton struggled with five runs plated on ten hits but three relievers allowed one run in four frames. Andrew McCutchen paced a 16 hit attack with a homer and four RBI’s with Jung-ho Kang going deep and driving in three. Francisco Cervelli also left the yard and drove in three as every starter reached base. Left hander Jeff Locke opposes the rival Cardinals for the second time in 2015. Locke has struggled a bit over his last three outings with eleven runs plated on 13 hits and seven BB in 15.2 frames.

The St Louis Cardinals don’t have a huge lead in the National League Central but they are not easy to catch as winners in seven of ten. The Cardinals did blow a late lead to lose a game in the standings. John Lackey gave up three runs on four hits through six frames before Kevin Siegrist and Jonathan Broxton each allowed a run. Matt Carpenter led an eight hit attack with a three run homer that gave the Redbirds a 4-3 lead in the 7th while Jason Heyward knocked in one. Carlos Martinez shoots for back to back victories when he faces visiting Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Martinez defeated Cincinnati 4-3 with three runs scored (one earned) on six hits and a trio of BB in five innings.
The over is 8-2 in Pittsburgh’s last 10 games following a win while the Pirates are 47-22 in their last 69 overall and are 47-22 in their last 69 games on grass. St Louis are 55-19 in their last 74 home games and the under is 36-14-2 in their last 52 home games while going 46-22-3 in their last 71 overall. Both teams are hot so I’ll take the home squad…
