The San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Wednesday in San Diego for game three of their MLB series.
The San Diego Padres did all of their scoring in the first three innings but it was plenty as they beat the Reds. Jedd Gyorko hit a home run and Yangervis Solarte, Yonder Alonso, and Austin Hedges each had two hits as the Padres scored 11 runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Colin Rea allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out four over 5.0 innings to get the win in his Major League debut. For Wednesday’s game the Padres start James Shields who has allowed 138 hits and 61 earned runs while striking out 160 over 146.1 innings for an 8-4 record and a 3.75 ERA.

The Cincinnati Reds did all they could to come back on Tuesday but the hole they dug themselves into was too deep as they took the loss. Todd Frazier and Jason Bourgeois each hit home runs and Tucker Barnhart had three hits as the Reds scored six runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen allowed seven hits and seven runs while striking out just one lasting 1.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-8 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Reds start Raisel Iglesias who has allowed 54 hits and 28 earned runs while striking out 53 over 53.1 innings for a 2-4 record and a 4.72 ERA.
San Diego is 8-3 in their last 11 games as a favorite, 2-6 in their last eight games, and 1-5 in Shields’ last six starts as a favorite. Cincinnati is 7-21 in their last 28 against the NL West, 1-6 in their last seven games, and 1-4 in Iglesias’ last five starts. Cincinnati is 1-8 in their last nine games against San Diego.
We can expect plenty of scoring in this one and my free pick is going to be over the total. My stronger play is on the winning team and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
