The Oakland Athletics open a series with the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards on Friday.
The Oakland Athletics know the time has come and gone for making a run in the American League West which is a two team race between the Angels and Astros. The Athletics were swept away by the Blue Jays following a 4-2 loss at the Rogers Centre on Thursday. Starter Jesse Chavez lasted six innings but a three run homer led to four runs in the second to do him in. The A’s managed eight hits and walked twice with Billy Burns smacking an RBI triple and scoring while Mark Canha singled in Marcus Semian. Chris Bassitt gets the ball in game number one at Baltimore on Friday night. Bassitt comes off of a 5-4 win versus Houston but did not get a decision despite allowing one run on three hits while whiffing ten in 6.2 frames.

The Baltimore Orioles postseason drive has taken a hit lately with defeats in three of four. The Orioles suffered a 3-0 loss at Seattle on Wednesday as they were no hit by Hisashi Iwakuma. Lost in the shuffle was an outstanding performance on the mound from Kevin Gausman. Gausman allowed three runs on six hits and a pair of BB through seven innings while striking out eight in falling to 2-4. The offense consisted of walks by Manny Machado, Chris Davis and Jonathan Schoop. Ubaldo Jimenez gets the ball Friday against the visiting Oakland looking for consecutive victories. Jimenez dominated the Angels 5-0 in his last start with eight innings of two hit baseball.
Oakland are 8-20 in their last 28 Friday games. Baltimore are 67-33 in their last 100 home games and are 11-2 in Jimenez’s last 13 home starts. The over is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings. I don’t trust Jimenez for some reason even though he is better at home so do with this as you will…
