The San Francisco Giants broke out the offense early to beat the Nationals on Friday. Matt Duffy and Hunter Pence each hit home runs and Gregor Blanco had three hits as the Giants scored eight runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Matt Cain allowed six hits and five runs while striking out three over 4.2 innings to not get a decision as Jeremy Affeldt got the win to go to 2-2 for the season and Sergio Romo earned his 25th save. For Saturday’s game the Giants start Jake Peavy who has allowed 47 hits and 21 earned runs while striking out 39 over 50.1 innings for a 2-5 record and a 3.75 ERA.

The Washington nationals came up short on Friday losing for the second night in a row in San Francisco. Bryce Harper and Danny Espinosa each hit home runs and Clint Robinson had two hits as the Nationals scored five runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer allowed seven hits and six runs while striking out three over 3.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 11-9 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Nationals start Gio Gonzalez who has allowed 130 hits and 48 earned runs while striking out 111 over 123.1 innings for a 9-4 record and a 3.50 ERA.
San Francisco is 16-5 in their last 21 home games, 6-2 in game three of a series, and 4-1 in Peavy’s last five starts. Washington is 2-8 against a right-handed starter, 0-4 in their last four road games, and 10-4 in Gonzalez’s last 14 starts against a team with a winning record. Washington is 1-4 in their last five games in San Francisco.
