The Arizona Diamondbacks shoot for another road win versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are far more competitive then in recent years although making the postseason is questionable at best. The Diamondbacks had lost three of four before knocking off playoff hopeful Pittsburgh 4-1 on Monday. Jeremy Hellickson gave up three hits including a solo homer over 5.1 frames with five relievers holding off the Pirates. Jake Lamb paced a nine hit attack with a solo homer with David Peralta doubling in a run and scoring. The Diamondbacks send Chase Anderson to the bump for his first meeting with Pittsburgh in 2015. Anderson comes off of a 7-6 loss to Philadelphia with five runs plated on nine hits in five frames.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been red hot over the past few weeks as they set their sights on the postseason. Despite Monday’s defeat the Pirates have still won eight of eleven although they dropped a game in the standings. Ace Gerrit Cole was charged with all four runs on nine hits through 6.2 innings to absorb the loss. The Buccos offense was unable to generate much with seven hits and a trio of bases on balls with Pedro Alvarez going 2-4 with his 19th homerun of the season. Left hander Francisco Liriano gets the start against the Diamondbacks for the second time on the year. Liriano defeated St Louis 10-5 with three runs allowed on six hits and four BB over six innings.
The over is 10-3-1 in Arizona’s last 14 road games while the Diamondbacks are 8-17 in their last 25 Tuesday games and are 3-11 in Anderson’s last 14 road starts. The over is 7-1 in Pittsburgh’s last 8 games as a home favorite and is 7-2-1 in their last 10 overall while going 7-2-1 in their last 10 on grass. I’m hoping the Pirates get this one because they need to keep winning…
