The Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves face off on Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field for game two of their MLB series.
The Chicago Cubs continue to hold on to a Wildcard spot in the National league as they beat the Braves on Thursday. Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell each hit home runs and Dexter Fowler and Chris Coghlan each had two hits as the Cubs scored seven runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Jake Arrieta allowed four hits and struck out seven over 6.0 scoreless innings to get the win and raise his record to 15-6 for the season. The Atlanta Braves struggled to score runs on Thursday and that paved the way for another loss. Freddie Freeman, Jace Peterson, and Andrelton Simmons each had two hits as the Braves scored one run on eight hits. Starting pitcher Michael Foltynewicz allowed eight hits and seven runs while striking out six over 4.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 4-5 for the season. For Friday’s game the Braves start Shelby Miller who has allowed 124 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 128 over 152 innings for a 5-9 record and a 2.43 ERA.
Chicago is 9-2 in their last 11 home games, 17-5 in their last 22 games, and 4-0 in Hendricks’ last four starts. Atlanta is 16-43 in their last 59 road games, 1-5 as an underdog, and 0-4 in Miller’s last four road starts. Atlanta is 12-5 in the last 17 meetings of these two.
Hendricks simply isn’t a pitcher worth this kind of number and Miller has had some tough luck so it is well worth taking a shot on the Braves here.
