Mark Canha and Josh Phegley each hit home runs and Brett Lawrie had three hits as the A’s scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Sonny Gray allowed five hits and three runs while striking out four over 8.0 innings to not get a decision as Pat Venditte took the loss. For Sunday’s game the Athletics start Kendall Graveman who has allowed 123 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 74 over 109.2 innings for a 6-9 record and a 4.27 ERA.

The Tampa Bay Rays rallied late on Saturday to get the come from behind win in Oakland. John Jaso, Logan Forsythe, and Asdrubal Cabrera each hit home runs as the Rays scored five runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Erasmo Ramirez allowed eight hits and four runs while striking out four over 7.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Alex Colome took the loss. For Sunday’s game the Rays start Jake Odorizzi who has allowed 108 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 108 over 122.1 innings for a 6-6 record and a 3.02 ERA.
Oakland is 5-0 in their last five games as a home underdog, 2-5 in game three of a series, and 0-7 in Graveman’s last seven starts. Tampa Bay is 10-19 in their last 29 road games, 1-5 as a road favorite, and 1-5 in Odorizzi’s last six starts as a favorite. Tampa Bay is 21 and 47 in their last 68 games in Oakland.
The A’s are just not a very good team this season and despite some of the issues the Rays have they are the choice here.
