The Oakland Athletics travel to Safeco Field to kick off a series with the Seattle Mariners.
The Oakland Athletics are playing for pride at this point in the season instead of challenging for the American League West crown. Despite an 8-2 win against Tampa Bay Sunday the Athletics have still lost eight of eleven. Starter Kendall Graveman tossed six scoreless frames but did not get a decision. The A’s pounded out eleven hits with Mark Canha driving in four with Eric Sogard knocking in two while Billy Burns scored twice. Left hander Felix Doubront makes his 6th start of the season when he opposes the Mariners on Monday. Doubront was outstanding in a 5-4 win versus the Dodgers with an unearned run allowed over six frames.

The Seattle Mariners have a shot at reaching .500 but that’s not very likely unless they get and stay hot. The Mariners took a step in the right direction with an 8-6 victory against the White Sox on Sunday that snapped a three game skid. Taijuan Walker picked up the win with five runs plated on seven hits through 5.2 innings. The M’s logged eleven hits and walked six times with Robinson Cano smacking a two run bomb while Nelson Cruz drove in two more with Austin Jackson scoring twice. The Mariners are scheduled to send Hisashi Iwakuma to the mound to face the visiting Athletics on Monday. Iwakuma is coming off of a 3-2 victory at Texas where he gave up both runs on five hits over seven innings.
Oakland are 3-14 in their last 17 road games and are 2-9 in their last 11 overall while going 9-3-1 in their last 13 Monday games. The over is 19-5-3 in Seattle’s last 27 home games and is 5-2-1 in their last 8 overall while going 5-2-1 in their last 8 on grass. The Athletics are 2-7 in the last 9 meetings. I’m just going with the hot hurler here and hope Seattle scores…
