The Arizona Diamondbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Tuesday at Chase Field for game two of their MLB series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks had plenty of scoring chances on Monday but they converted on far too few of them as they lost to the Cardinals. Wellington Castillo hit a home run, David Peralta had four hits, and A.J. Pollock had two hits as the Diamondbacks scored three runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin allowed six hits and three runs while striking out five over 6.1 innings to take the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Diamondbacks start Robbie Ray who has allowed 83 hits and 33 earned runs while striking out 76 over 88 innings for a 3-9 record and a 3.38 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals took advantage of their chances on Monday and got the win in Arizona. Matt Carpenter hit a home run, Yadier Molina had two hits, and Jhonny Peralta had a hit as the Cardinals scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn allowed nine hits and two earned runs while striking out three over 6.0 innings to get the win to go to 10-8 for the season and Trevor Rosenthal earned his 39th save. For Tuesday’s game the Cardinals start Jaime Garcia who has allowed 56 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 57 over 80.2 innings for a 5-4 record and a 1.79 ERA.
Arizona is 7-2 in their last nine games following a loss, 1-6 in their last seven games as a home underdog, and 0-4 in Ray’s last four home starts. St. Louis is 8-3 in their last 11 game two of a series, 8-2 in their last 10 games against a left-handed starter, and 4-0 in Garcia’s last four starts.
