The Chicago Cubs begin a west coast swing with a stop at AT&T Park to face the San Francisco Giants.
The Chicago Cubs are playing as well as I’ve seen them in years and they show no signs of letting up. The red hot Cubs have won nine of 12 following a 2-1 win versus visiting Cleveland on Monday. Jon Lester was outstanding with a run scored in 8.2 frames which cost him the complete game and win. The offense scratched by on five hits with Anthony Rizzo tripling in Chris Coghlan before Kris Bryant slammed a two out walk off homer to win it. Jake Arrieta gets the series opening start against San Francisco for the second time in 2015. Arrieta logged his 12th straight quality start in a 7-1 win versus Atlanta with six scoreless innings.

The San Francisco Giants have to get back in the groove again if they expect to chase down the Dodgers in the National League West. The Giants have dropped five of seven after a 5-2 loss at Pittsburgh on Sunday Night Baseball. Starter Ryan Vogelsong gave up three runs on seven hits and four BB through 3.1 frames which was enough to take the loss with an eight hit, four walk attack not doing much. Norichika Aoki and Marlon Byrd drove in runs with Matt Duffy and Gregor Blanco scoring. Matt Cain draws the game one start against visiting Chicago on Tuesday night. Cain comes off a 4-3 defeat at St Louis where he allowed two runs on six hits over six innings of work.
The Cubs are 8-2 in their last 10 road games and are 7-2 in their last 9 Tuesday games while going 20-6 in their last 26 overall. The under is 5-1-2 in San Francisco’s last 8 overall and is 5-1-2 in their last 8 on grass while going 8-2-1 in their last 11 home games. The under is 9-3 in Cain’s last 12 starts versus the Cubs. This isn’t a game I’m running out to bet because Cain is capable and the Cubs won’t win forever…
