The Arizona Diamondbacks and St. Louis Cardinals face off on Wednesday at Chase Field for game three of their MLB series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks fell behind in the first inning on Tuesday and they never got close taking the loss. Paul Goldschmidt had two hits and A.J. Pollock and Aaron Hill each had hits as the Diamondbacks scored one run on seven hits. Starting pitcher Robbie Ray allowed five hits and six runs while striking out three and lasting just 3.0 innings to take the loss. For Wednesday’s game the Diamondbacks start Patrick Corbin who has allowed 47 hits and 20 earned runs while striking out 45 over 44 innings for a 3-3 record and a 4.09 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals once again made it look easy as they beat the D-backs on Tuesday. Peter Bourjous hit a home run, Thomas Pham had three hits, and Jhonny Peralta and Kolten Wong each had two hits as the Cardinals scored nine runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Jaime Garcia allowed four hits and a run while striking out six over 6.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 6-4 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Cardinals start John Lackey who has allowed 160 hits and 55 earned runs while striking out 123 over 165.2 innings for a 10-8 record and a 2.99 ERA.
Arizona is 4-2 against the NL Central, 0-8 in their last eight home games against a team with a winning percentage above .600, and 4-1 in Corbin’s last five starts. St. Louis is 5-1 in their last six games against a left-handed starter, 10-4 against the NL West, and 3-13 in Lackey’s last 16 road starts. St. Louis is 20-7 in their last 27 games against Arizona.
The Cardinals have been getting it done but I look for them to take a rare loss here as I see Lackey as a weak link.
