The San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Cubs face off on Wednesday at AT&T Park for game two of their MLB series.
The San Francisco Giants mounted a late rally on Tuesday but they came up short and lost to the Cubs. Matt Duffy had two hits and Brandon Belt and Buster Posey had hits as the Giants scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Matt Cain allowed eight hits and six runs while striking out three over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-4 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Giants start Jake Peavy who has allowed 63 hits and 30 earned runs while striking out 46 over 62 innings for a 3-6 record and a 4.35 ERA.

The Chicago Cubs came out swinging on Tuesday and beat the Giants in San Francisco. Kyle Schwarber, Miguel Montero, and Starlin Castro each hit home runs as the Cubs scored eight hits on 10 runs. Starting pitcher Jake Arrieta allowed four hits and a run while striking out eight over 6.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 16-6 and Hector Rondon earned his 24th save. For Wednesday’s game the Cubs start Kyle Hendricks who has allowed 136 hits and 61 earned runs while striking out 118 over 136.1 innings for a 6-5 record and a 4.03 ERA.
San Francisco is 1-6 in their last seven games, 2-11 against the NL Central, and 6-1 in Peavy’s last seven starts as a favorite. Chicago is 10-2 in their last 12 road games, 23-5 in their last 28 games, and 5-0 in Hendricks’ last five starts. Chicago has won their last six games against San Francisco.
The Giants had the momentum when the game ended Tuesday and I look for that to carry over here and for them to get the win.
