The San Francisco Giants bounced back from Tuesday’s loss to beat the Cubs on Wednesday. Norichika Aoki hit a home run, Brandon Belt had two hits, and Buster Posey had a hit as the Giants scored four runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Jake Peavy allowed five hits and two runs while striking out three over 6.1 innings to get the win and raise his record to 4-6 for the season and Santiago Casilla earned his 31st save. For Thursday’s game the Giants start Madison Bumgarner who has allowed 148 hits and 57 earned runs while striking out 180 over 169.2 innings for a 15-6 record and a 3.02 ERA.

The Chicago Cubs couldn’t capitalize on their chances on Wednesday as they lost to the Giants. Kyle Schwarber and Kris Bryant each had two hits and Chris Denorfia had a hit as the Cubs scored two runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks allowed five hits and four runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-6 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Cubs start Dan Haren who has allowed 25 hits and 14 earned runs while striking 16 over 19.1 innings for a 1-1 record and a 6.05 ERA since being traded to the Cubs.
San Francisco is 7-1 in their last eight games as a favorite, 2-5 in their last seven games, and 27-11 in Bumgarner’s last 38 starts.
