The Philadelphia Phillies shoot for another win against the visiting San Diego Padres.
The San Diego Padres still have hopes of reaching .500 but that goal has been slipping away with losses in five of six after a 4-3 defeat at Philadelphia on Saturday. Starter Collin Rea was charged with all four runs on six hits and a pair of free passes over five frames to get the loss. SD managed eight hits with Yonder Alonso swingingthe big bat with two hits, an RBI and run. James Shields toes the rubber in the final game of the series at Philadelphia on Sunday. In 2015 Shields has logged a 9-6 record in 27 starts with a 3.89 ERA and 1.32 WHIP.

The Philadelphia Phillies have a new look but they are still struggling to escape the National League East cellar. The Phillies moved a step towards their goal with Saturday’s win that featured solid work on the mound backed by just enough offense. Rookie Adam Morgan allowed a pair of unearned runs on four hits through six frames to get the win. The bats logged six hits and walked three times with Darnell Sweeney clubbing a two run homer while Freddy Galvis scored and drove in a run. Alec Asher makes his Major League debut after being acquired from the Rangers as part of the trade for Cole Hamels. In four starts at Triple-A Asher has gone 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA.
The over is 12-3-1 in San Diego’s last 16 road games and is 21-6-1 in their last 28 overall while going 21-6-1 in their last 28 on grass. The Over is 27-6-5 in the Phillies last 38 home games. The Padres are 15-38 in the last 53 meetings. I have no clue what to expect from Asher but as a Phils fan I hope it’s good…
