The Houston Astros look to maintain their lead in the west with a win versus the Seattle Mariners.
The Seattle Mariners are still holding out hope of reaching .500 and took a step in that direction with a 7-5 win at Minute Maid Park. The offense carried the day as starter Roenis Elias allowed four runs on five hits and four free passes over 5.1 frames before four relievers held the Astros at bay. The M’s logged nine hits and walked seven times with Mark Trumbo, Franklin Gutierrez and Logan Morrison connecting on homers. The Mariners send Taijuan Walker to the hill to control the Houston attack. Walker is 10-7 with a 4.53 ERA covering 26 starts.

The Houston Astros are still holding on to the top spot in the American League West which is a big surprise to many who thought the Angels would win the division. The Astros pitching cost them Tuesday with Scott Feldman giving up three runs in 2.2 frames while Vincent Velasquez and Pat Neshek giving up two runs apiece. The Stros did their damage on nine hits and four bases on balls with Jake Marisnick leaving the yard and scoring twice. Left hander Scott Kazmir makes his 8th start for the Astros after coming over from Oakland. Kazmir has gone 7-9 in 25 starts with a sparkling 2.45 ERA.
I think the Astros need to stand up and be counted here for lack of a better word. They have led the AL West the majority of the season and certainly don’t want to lose the lead now. In my view we don’t know how this team will handle adversity which they haven’t really experienced. A win here and the momentum is back with them and this is the type of game Kazmir needs to come up big in…
