The San Francisco Giants and the Colorado Rockies face off Saturday at Coors Field as they continue their MLB series of National League West teams.
The Colorado Rockies took care of business on Friday beating the Giants at Coors. Carlos Gonzalez and Nolan Arenado each hit home runs and Ben Paulsen had two hits as the Rockies scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa allowed six hits and one run while striking out seven over 7.0 innings to get the win to raise his record to 9-6 and Jon Axford earned his 19th save. For Saturday’s game the Rockies start Chad Bettis who has allowed 92 hits and 46 earned run while striking out 73 over 86.2 innings for a 6-4 record and a 4.78 ERA.

The San Francisco Giants watched their post season hopes slip further away as they lost to the Rockies on Friday. Angel Pagan and Matt Duffy each had two hits and Buster Posey had a hit as the Giants scored one run on eight hits. Starting pitcher Christopher Heston allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out four over 5.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 11-9 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Giants start Jake Peavy who has allowed 75 hits and 36 earned runs while striking out 53 over 74 innings for a 4-6 record and a 4.38 ERA.
Colorado is 6-11 against the NL West, 32-76 against a team with a winning record, and 6-2 in Bettis’ last eight home starts. San Francisco is 16-7 in their last 23 games against a team with a losing record, 0-7 in their last seven games, and 2-8 in Peavy’s last 10 road starts.
The Giants are in a nose dive but I see them catching themselves here and getting the win.
