The Colorado Rockies and the San Francisco Giants face off on Sunday at Coors Field as they close out their MLB series of National League West teams.
The Colorado Rockies have had a tough go of it this season and it didn’t get any better on Saturdayas they lost to the Giants. Nolan Arenaado hit a home run, Jose Reyes had two hits, and Ben Paulsen had a hit as the Rockies scored three runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Chad Bettis allowed eight hits and four runs while striking out one over 4.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-5 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Rockies start Yohan Flande who has allowed 54 hits and 25 earned runs while striking out 37 over 55.2 innings for a 3-1 record and a 4.04 ERA.

The San Francisco Giants broke out of their slump on Saturday beating the Rockies in Colorado. Angel Pagan and Gregor Blanco each hit home runs and Matt Duffy had three hits as the Giants scored seven runs on 15 hits. Starting pitcher Jake Peavy allowed four hit and three runs while striking out five over 5.2 innings to get the win and go to 5-6 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Giants start Madison Bumgarner who has allowed 158 hits and 60 earned runs while striking out 200 over 182.2 innings for a 16-7 record and a 2.96 ERA.
Colorado is 5-3 in their last eight games, 7-3 in game four of a series, and 1-5 in Flande’s last six starts against the NL West. San Francisco is 21-8 in their last 29 games as a favorite, 11-25 in their last 36 road games, and 5-1 in Bumgarner’s last six starts. San Francisco is 1-4 in their last five games in Colorado.
The Giants at least got some positive momentum going on Saturday and I expect them to have more of it here with Bumgarner.
