The New York Mets look to end their series in south Florida with a win versus the Miami Marlins.
Even though the New York Mets sit atop the National League East they are a bad week away from falling to second behind the Nationals. The Mets won their second in three games with a 7-0 defeat of Miami Saturday. Bartolo Colon tossed a complete game with nine hits given up to up his record to 13-11 and the bats didn’t waste the effort with nine hits and four free passes. The long ball led the way with Travis d’Arnaud, Wilmer Flores and Juan Lagares smacking homers. Rookie Steven Matz comes off the disabled list to make his third start of the season. In two starts Matz has allowed two runs on seven hits and five free passes covering 13.2 innings.

The Marlins saw their four game winning streak halted on Saturday as the offense stalled and the pitching struggled early. Starter Brad Hand lasted only 1.2 innings and was charged with all seven runs on six hits and a pair of BB including three homeruns. The Fish totaled nine hits but never broke through with Justin Bour and JT Realmuto posting two hits apiece. The Marlins are scheduled to start Jarred Cosart to the mound to oppose the Mets on Sunday afternoon. In nine appearances (eight starts) Cosart has gone 1-4 with a 5.36 ERA over 45.1 frames.
New York are 7-1 in their last 8 road games while the over is 16-5 in their last 21 on grass and is 20-7 in their last 27 overall. Miami are 2-6 in their last 8 home games with the under going 12-5 in their last 17 Sunday games while the Marlins are 7-16 in their last 23 Sunday games. The over is 18-7-1 in the last 26 meetings. I’ll take a shot with the Mets although Metz is really unknown off the DL…
