The Line: Washington Nationals -183 / New York Mets +173 --- Over/Under: 7 See the Latest Odds

The battle for first in the NL East begins Monday when the New York Mets visit the Washington Nationals.

The New York Mets are in position to pull away from the Nationals in the East. The Mets lost a game in the standings with a 4-3 defeat at Miami on Sunday. Starter Steven Matz gave up two runs on four hits over 5.1 frames for a no decision before Tyler Clippard allowed runs in the 8th and 9th. The New York attack consisted of eight hits and five free passes with Wilmer Flores cracking a two run homer while Yoenis Cespedes went solo. Left hander Jon Niese looks to right the ship when he takes the hill versus Washington on Monday. Niese has struggled the last three times out with18 runs allowed on 23 hits over 16.1 frames.

Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets - 9/7/15 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Washington Nationals are heating upright now to keep them in the National League East race. The Nationals have won eight of eleven after an 8-4 win against visiting Atlanta on Sunday. Joe Ross was charged with all four runs on five hits and three BB through 4.2 frames before five relievers put up zeros. The Nats totaled nine hits and walked four times with Jayson Werth smacking a three run homer while Anthony Rendon and Bryce Harper connected on solo bombs. The Nationals are slated to start Max Scherzer for game one of the series with the Mets. Scherzer comes off of a 4-3 win at St Louis where he gave up two runs on eleven hits while whiffing ten in six innings.

The Mets are 8-1 in their last 9 road games and are 13-3 in their last 16 Monday games while the over is 17-4-1 in their last 22 road games. The over is 15-4-3 in Washington’s last 22 home games. New York are 22-51 in the last 73 meetings.  Every time I put too much faith in Washington they fall on their face so take this with a grain of salt…
