The San Diego Padres visit Chase Field to begin a series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The San Diego Padres have an outside chance at reaching .500 if they can reverse their recent struggles. Nothing was reversed Sunday in a 10-3 loss at San Francisco for their 8th defeat in eleven games. Nothing went favorable but the pitching was hit hard with Odrisamer Despagne allowing four runs in 3.1 frames with three relievers charged with two runs apiece. SD could not stay competitive on the scoreboard with Travis Jankowski going solo while Jedd Gyorko and Brett Wallace ripped RBI hits. San Diego sends James Shields to the hill in game one of the series with the Diamondbacks. On the season Shields has gone 11-6 with a 3.90 ERA over 23 outings.

The Diamondbacks did nothing offensively until Jarrod Saltalammachia clubbing a three run homer. The Diamondbacks begin the series with Jeremy Hellickson on the bump on Monday. Hellickson has struggled at times but has been hot the last three times out with a 2-1 mark and 2.50 ERA.
