The Tampa Bay Rays welcome the New York Yankees to Tropicana Field on Monday.
The New York Yankees are chasing the Blue Jays in the American League East but have not been successful. The Yankees avoided getting swept by Toronto with a 5-0 victory which snapped a five game slide. Starter Masahiro Tanaka was dominant with seven shutout innings to get the win. The offense totaled seven hits and walked twice with Dustin Ackley going deep and driving in three while Alex Rodriguez knocked in a run and scored. Veteran left hander CC Sabathia draws the start at Tropicana Field in the series opener Monday. Sabathia did not get a decision in a 5-3 loss to Baltimore with three runs plated on four hits in 4.2 frames.

The Tampa Bay Rays had hopes of reaching .500 but it appears that goal has gotten out of reach. The Rays let one get away in Sunday’s 2-0, 13 inning defeat at the hands of visiting Boston. Starter Drew Smyly threw six scoreless innings before Enny Romero gave up two runs to absorb the loss. The Tampa Bay offense managed only three hits and four bases on balls but they struck out 14 times and that was a huge factor. The Mariners are slated to send Erasmo Ramirez to the hill for the series opener against the Yankees. Ramirez did not get a decision in an 8-7 loss at Detroit where he gave up four runs on six hits in five frames.
The over is 7-1-4 in Tampa Bay’s last 12 Monday games and is 7-2 in TB last 9 on astroturf while going 7-2 in their last 9 home games. The under is 9-3-1 in the last 13 meetings. I’m leaning to the Rays here but nothing big as the Yankees haven’t been playing well but they are the better team…
