The Houston Astros look to solidify their grip on first in the West with a victory at the Texas Rangers.
The Houston Astros lead in the American League West is not the biggest which is scary with the way the team has been playing. The Astros recent funk continued with Monday’s 5-3 defeat at Texas saddling the team with losses in six of eight. Starter Scott Kazmr threw the ball well with three runs over seven frames before Will Harris gave up a two run bomb to absorb the loss. The Stros managed eight hits and walked three times with Jose Altuve going solo with George Springer and Colby Rasmus driving in runs. The Astros go with Collin McHugh on the mound in the second game of the series at the Rangers. McHugh has been outstanding this season with a 16-7 record with a 3.89 ERA.

The Texas Rangers are chasing the Astros for first in the West but they have missed out on some opportunities lately. The Rangers picked up a game in the standings with Monday’s victory with solid work on the mound and at the plate putting it all together. Starter Cole Hammels allowed all three runs through seven innings for a no decision with three relievers keeping Houston off the scoreboard. Prince Fielder paced the offense with a homer, two RBI’s and three runs while Mitch Moreland went deep with a pair of runs driven in. Left hander Martin Perez is the scheduled starter against the first place Astros on Tuesday night. Perez hasn’t been in the rotation the entire season and is 2-5 with a 5.43 ERA.
The under is 20-8-2 in Houston’s last 30 road games while the Astros are 15-36 in their last 51 road games and are 9-1 in McHugh’s last 10 Tuesday starts. Texas are 18-5 in their last 23 home games and the under is 19-6-2 in their last 27 games while the under is 19-6-2 in their last 27 on grass. The Astros might be in a little trouble here…
