The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Tuesday in game two of their MLB series.
The St. Louis Cardinals needed a late inning rally but they got it and the win against the Reds on Monday. Jhonny Peralta had two hits and Matt Carpenter and Kolten Wong each had hits as the Cardinals scored two runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Jaime Garcia allowed five hits and a run while striking out five over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Jonathan Broxton got the win and Trevor Rosenthal earned his 47th save. For Tuesday’s game the Cardinals start John Lackey who has allowed 193 hits and 62 earned runs while striking out 157 over 200 innings for a 12-9 record and a 2.79 ERA.

The Cincinnati Reds appeared to be on their way to a win on Monday but they let it get away in the bottom of the eighth inning as they fell to the Cardinals. Brandon Phillips had three hits, Todd Frazier had two hits, and Joey Votto had a hit as the Reds scored one run on eight hits. Starting pitcher John Lamb allowed five hits and struck out six over 6.0 scoreless innings to not get a decision as J.J. Hoover took the loss to fall to 8-2 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Reds start Keyvius Sampson who has allowed 52 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 32 over 39.1 innings for a 2-5 record and a 7.09 ERA.
St. Louis is 6-2 in their last eight games, 6-2 against the NL Central, and 17-4 in Lackey’s last 21 home starts. Cincinnati is 5-3 against the NL Central, 2-5 in their last six Tuesday games, and 1-4 in Sampson’s last five starts against a team with a winning record.
The Cardinals are a big favorite here and they should be as they win this one easy.
