The Chicago Cubs can move closer to a postseason berth with a win against the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday.
The Milwaukee Brewers are looking for that spark that will send them on a season ending tear. The Brewers struggles continued in a 4-0 defeat at Wrigley Field on Tuesday with the bats never getting their feet under them. Starter Tyler Cravy fell to 0-8 with a pair of runs given up on three hits over four frames with Kyle Lohse and Corey Knebel allowing a run each. That was too much for the bats and their three hits as they never threatened. Rookie Zach Davies gets his 5th career start and first against the postseason bound Cubs. Davies threw the ball well in a 5-3 loss to Cincinnati last time out with three runs scored in six frames.

The question for the Chicago Cubs is can they catch the Pirates for second in the National League Central. The Cubs did their part with Tuesday’s victory that featured yet another strong effort on the mound from Cy Young contender Jake Arrieta who tossed a complete game three hitter with eleven strikeouts to up his record to 20-6. Kris Bryant paced the offense with a homer and three RBI’s while Kyle Schwarber drove in a run and scored twice. Kyle Hendricks toes the rubber for the third time against the Brewers on Wednesday. Hendricks did not get a decision in a 9-6 win at Pittsburgh where he gave up four runs in three innings.
Milwaukee are 1-9 in their last 10 overall and are 1-9 in their last 10 games on grass. While the over is 16-3-2 in their last 21 road games. Chicago are 21-6 in their last 27 home games while the over is 20-8 in their last 28 home games and 36-15 in their last 51 overall. Milwaukee are 0-8 in the last 8 meetings while the under is 11-5 in the last 16 meetings in Chicago. I’m not a big fan of Hendricks so hopefully the Cubs do some scoring…
