The Kansas City Royals look to return to their winning ways against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday
The Seattle Mariners have been playing good baseball over the past week or so and would like to continue through the end of the year. The Mariners had won five of seven before coughing up a late lead and losing 4-3 in ten innings. Starter Roenis Elias allowed a run in 5.1 innings with seven relievers seeing action. The M’s managed eight hits and walked twice with Ketel Marte going 3-5 with a pair of RBI’s and a run with Nelson Cruz knocking in another. Seattle is slated to send left hander James Paxton to the hill for just the 12th time in an injury plagued season. In 12 starts Paxton has gone 3-4 with a 1.39 WHIP and 3.70 ERA.

The Kansas City Royals are still in control of the American League Central but they have not been playing well. The Royals had dropped six of nine before rallying for a much needed win with things not going well lately. Starter Yordano Ventura was charged with all three runs on six hits through six innings before four relievers shut the Mariners down. KC rode a 12 hit, seven walk attack that saw three players knock in runs with Lorenzo Cain scoring twice although too many opportunities went by the wayside. The Royals are hoping Johnny Cueto can right the ship and pay dividends with playoffs approaching. In ten starts with Kansas City Cueto has gone 2-8 with a 5.12 ERA.
Seattle are 8-1 in their last 9 road games and the over is 10-2 in their last 12 road games while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 Thursday games. The over is 18-6-3 in Kansas City’s last 27 on grass and the Royals are 5-12 in their last 17 overall while going 5-12 in their last 17 games on grass. I don’t Paxton has done enough to get me excited and Cueto has really struggled and is not going to get my money. Not a great bet here…
