The battle for the AL West begins Friday when the Texas Rangers battle the Houston Astros.
The Texas Rangers have taken over first in the AL West and now the goal is to stay there. The Rangers have won nine of eleven after an 8-1 win at Oakland on Thursday. Starter Cole Hamels showed why Texas traded for him as he improved to 5-1 with an unearned run plated over six innings. The bats pounded out 13 hits and walked six times with Prince Fielder cracking a two run homer while Adrian Beltre drove in three. Delino DeShields Jr. drove in two and scored twice with Shin-Soo Choo and Rougned Odor scoring two runs each. Veteran Yovani Gallardo gets the call to the mound in the series opener at Minute Maid Park. Gallardo has dropped two in a row with eight runs plated on 15 hits and four BB in 9.1 frames.

The Houston Astros have gone cold while Texas has gotten hot and the result has dropped the team to second in the American League West. The Astros have lost eight of ten following a 6-5 defeat at the hands of the visiting Angels on Wednesday. Starter Mike Fiers allowed three runs through 6.2 innings before Will Harris and Pat Neshek allowed three more. The Stros posted nine hits and walked four times with George Springer and Carlos Correa knocking in all five runs. Scott Kazmir toes the rubber in game one of the series versus visiting Texas on Friday. Kazmir did not get a decision in a 10-6 win versus Oakland with three runs allowed on five hits and three BB over 3.2 innings.
The under is 12-3-1 in Texas last 16 Friday games and the Rangers are 35-17 in their last 52 overall while going 35-17 in their last 52 games on grass. The under is 9-1-1 in Houston’s last 11 Friday games while the Astros are 43-18 in their last 61 home games and are 3-7 in their last 10 overall. Texas are 56-22 in the last 78 meetings and are 26-12 in the last 38 meetings in Houston. Kazmir has fared better in this match up but I’ll go with the hot team…
