The New York Yankees need a win Wednesday against the Boston Red Sox to keep their AL East title hopes alive.
The Boston Red Sox haven’t had the season they wanted but they can avoid the American League East basement. The surging Red Sox routed the Yankees 10-4 Tuesday for five wins in a row. Starter Rick Porcello gave up four runs in the first before settling down to go eight frames and get the win. The offense logged eleven hits with Blake Swihart hitting a pair of homers and knocking in five while Mookie Betts went deep and scored twice. Left hander Wade Miley draws the start against the Yankees for the 4th time in 2015. Miley comes off a 4-2 loss to Tampa Bay with all four runs plated on eight hits including two homers over 6.1 frames.

The New York Yankees have to win out and have Toronto lose out or they will be fighting for the Wild Card. The Yankees have dropped consecutive contests and have no room for error so the odds are not in their favor. Starter Michael Pineda came up small with six runs allowed in the first with seven plated through six innings with Bryan Mitchell and Chris Martin allowing three more. The Bronx Bombers posted seven hits with Dustin Ackley cracking a two run homer while Carlos Beltran doubled in a run and scored. The Yankees turn to Masahiro Tanaka to keep their division title hopes alive against the Red Sox. Tanaka threw the ball well in a 5-1 loss to the Mets with two runs allowed on five hits in six innings.
Boston are 3-9 in Miley’s last 12 starts on grass and are 4-10 in Miley’s last 14 starts. The under is 16-5 in New York’s last 21 Wednesday games while the Yankees are 28-13 in Tanaka’s last 41 starts and 15-7 in Tanaka’s last 22 home starts. Boston are 4-10 in the last 14 meetings. The Yankees can’t sit around and pout and they need some mojo…
