The Miami Marlins conclude their visit at Tropicana Field against the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday.

The Miami Marlins are simply trying to finish the season strong which is about all they can hope for. After winning five in a row the Marlins have dropped back to back contests with a 6-4 defeat at Tampa Bay. Starter Jarred Cosart was charged with five runs to get the loss on five hits and four BB over 4.2 frames. The Fish mounted a nine hit, four walk attack that saw Dee Gordon, Marcell Ozuna and Miguel Rojas drive in runs. The Marlins hand the ball to ace Jose Fernandez for his final start of the season on Thursday. Fernandez struggled last time out in a 12-11 win versus Atlanta with six runs plated on nine hits in five innings.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Miami Marlins - 10/1/15 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Rays will be looking to strengthen their team in the offseason as the current roster faded. With Wednesday’s win the Rays have won back to back contests. Starter Drew Smyly was outstanding with a run scored on three hits while striking out eight in six innings to up his record to 5-2. The bats totaled ten hits and walked five times with Nick Franklin going deep. Grady Sizemore and Asdrubal Cabrera combined for five RBI’s while John Jaso and Evan Longoria scored two runs apiece. Jake Odorizzi takes the mound against the Marlins for the first time in 2015. Odorizzi has struggled the past two times out with eight runs scored on 15 hits over 10.2 innings.

The over is 5-2-1 in Miami’s last 8 on astroturf and the Marlins  are 21-8 in Fernandez’s last 29 starts. The over is 5-2-1 in Tampa Bay’s last 8 interleague home games while the Rays  are 4-9 in their last 13 games on astroturf. Miami are 6-16 in the last 22 meetings and  are 3-8 in the last 11 meetings in Tampa Bay. I’ll take Fernandez to rebound here…
