The Washington Nationals travel to Citi Field to square off with the New York Mets.
The Washington Nationals were supposed to win the National League East but enter the final series of the year with nothing to play for. The Nationals picked up a 3-0 win at Turner Field on Thursday behind a dominant Stephen Strasburg. Strasburg gave up six hits and whiffed seven over six frames to up his record to 11-7. The Nats mustered six hits with Bryce Harper singling in Wilmer Difo while Clint Robinson went solo. Left hander Gio Gonzalez will be on the mound Friday hoping to end his season with a victory. Gonzalez has gone 11-8 on the year with a 3.93 ERA covering 30 outings.

The New York Mets have won the National League East and seemed to just go through the motions in losing three straight at Philadelphia. The Mets just didn’t play with any fire in a 3-0 loss at Philadelphia and that probably has something to do with wrapping up the division and concentrating on the playoffs. Starter Sean Gillmartin threw the ball well in defeat with a pair of runs allowed on three hits over five innings to fall to 3-2. The bats were silent with six hits with Kirk Nieuwenhuis going 3-4 and Kelly Johnson going 2-4. Rookie Noah Syndergaard makes his final start of the regular season with the hopes of seeing action in the postseason. In 23 starts Syndergaard has gone 9-7 with a 1.08 WHIP and 3.34 ERA.
Washington are 2-8 in their last 10 Friday games and are 2-7 in their last 9 overall while going 2-7 in their last 9 games on grass. The over is 7-2 in New York’s last 9 on grass while the over is 35-17 in their last 52 overall and 8-1 in Syndergaard’s last 9 starts overall. The under is 4-1-3 in Gonzalez’s last 8 starts versus the Mets and Washington are 38-15 in the last 53 meetings in New York. I don’t know if the Mets even care right now but if they do I would back them but I don’t know…
