The Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners kick off the final series of the season at Safeco Field Friday.
The Oakland Athletics look to end the season on a positive note heading in to the offseason. The Athletics defeated the red hot Angels 8-7 Wednesday but have still lost eight of ten. Starter Barry Zito gave up two runs on solo jacks over four frames with Edward Mujica allowing three runs. The bats saved the day with six hits and seven free passes that saw Eric Sogard double and drive in three Stephen Vogt knocked in two more. The Athletics send Aaron Brooks to the bump to face the Mariners for the second time. Brooks threw the ball well in a 5-1 loss at Houston where he gave up three runs on seven hits over seven frames.

The Seattle Mariners seemed to have thrown in the towel with defeats in seven of ten after blowing a 6-3 led to Houston Wednesday on the way to a 7-6 loss. The Athletics pitcher by committee fail Wednesday with eight hurlers seeing action with Mayckol Guaipe giving up two runs while JC Ramirez served up a three run homer. The M’s hammered out 12 hits with Nelson Cruz going solo while Kyle Seager went deep and drove in three. Seattle sends Hisashi Iwakuma out to oppose the Athletics in the series opener on Friday. Iwakuma was a 3-2 loser at the Angels last time out where he gave up all three runs on eight hits in 7.1 innings.
