The New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers play game one of the NLDS Friday night.
The New York Mets finished the regular season with a 90-72 record and have split their last 10 games. This is the Mets first playoff appearance since 2006, and they got here with a pitching staff that had an ERA of 3.43 and struck out 1,337 batters. In fact, the Mets have allowed three or less runs in six of their last eight games. Offensively, Daniel Murphy, Lucus Dada and Curtis Granderson are the three players with at least 70 RBI, while Wilmer Flores had 127 hits. It’s been awhile since the Mets have done anything, so this group is looking to finally change the tide. Jacob deGrom gets the ball, and he’s 14-8 with a 2.54 ERA and 205 strikeouts this season. deGrom is 0-2 with a 3.66 ERA and 19 strikeouts in his career against the Dodgers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers finished the regular season with a 92-70 record and have won five of their last six. This is the Dodgers third straight playoff appearance, but they haven’t reached the World Series since 1988. This year, the Dodgers had a top-five ERA of 3.44 and have three pitchers with at least 10 victories. Offensively, the LA Dodgers could be better, but a lineup that includes Adrian Gonzalez, Joc Pederson and possibly Yasiel Puig is nothing to sneeze at. Dodgers’ fans can only hope this is finally the season they get it done. Clayton Kershaw takes the hill, and he’s 16-7 with a 2.13 ERA and 301 strikeouts this season. Kershaw is 6-0 with a 1.34 ERA and 61 strikeouts in his career against the Mets.
This line is nuts. Yes, the Dodgers are probably the better team and do have one of the best pitchers in the world. However, how many times are we going to see Kershaw stink up the joint in the postseason? Kershaw is 1-5 with an ERA of over five in the postseason. Also, it's not like deGrom is a slouch.
The Dodgers may win this game and Kershaw could have a great playoff appearance for a change. But for the sake of the value, I'm taking the Mets here.
