The St Louis Cardinals travel to Wrigley Field to face the Chicago Cubs in game three of their NLDS.
The St Louis Cardinals had a perfect opportunity to take a commanding 2-0 series lead but neither the work on the mound or at the plate was very strong in a 6-3 defeat for a 1-1 series. Left hander Jaime Garcia was destroyed by poor defense with five unearned runs plated on four hits and a BB over just two frames while five relievers finished up. The Redbirds attack featured solo homers off the bats of Matt Carpenter, Randal Grichuk and Kolten Wong connecting on solo jacks. The Cardinals send right hander Michael Wacha to the mound in game three of the NLDS at Wrigley Field. Wacha has been a major contributor to the Cardinals success with a 17-7 record and 3.38 ERA.

The Chicago Cubs knew they would have their backs against the wall with another loss at Busch Stadium but they came up big to even the series with the series shifting back to Wrigley Field. Starter Kyle Hendricks allowed all three runs on three solo jacks through 4.2 innings before three relievers saved the day with 4.1 scoreless frames. The Cubbies offense did their damage on six hits and four walks with Jorge Soler going deep and driving in two while Dexter Fowler drove in a run and scored. The Cubs send ace Jake Arrieta to the bump in game three versus the rival Cardinals on Monday. Arrieta has been one of the best in the business with a 22-6 record and 1.77 ERA.
I’m surprised that a team as good as the Cardinals couldn’t catch the ball at such a crucial time which cost them a game they needed to win. I see that Wacha hasn’t been spectacular to end the season but Arrieta has been a monster and I have a hard time going against him here…
