The Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays play a deciding game five of the ALDS Wednesday night.
The Texas Rangers can advance to their third ALCS since the 2010 season with a victory here. The Rangers missed out on a chance to end this series back in Texas, and it has to do with a pitching staff that’s allowed 13 runs in the last two games. The Rangers have lost seven of their last 10 games when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Delino DeShields leads the Rangers with six hits, Robinson Chirinos has three RBI and Rougned Odor has a homerun. The Rangers have to be confident given that they won both games in Toronto, but a game five isn’t what they had in mind. Cole Hamels gets the ball, and he’s 0-0 with a 2.57 ERA and six strikeouts this postseason. Hamels is 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA and 19 strikeouts in his career against the Blue Jays.

The Toronto Blue Jays are searching for their first ALCS trip since the 1993 season. The Blue Jays offense has finally gotten on a roll after being quiet in games one and two. The Blue Jays have won 10 of their last 13 games when scoring more than three runs. Kevin Pillar leads Toronto with seven hits, Troy Tulowitzki has four RBI and Josh Donaldson has homered twice. The Blue Jays pitching staff has also been a little more consistent and has three different pitchers with at least five strikeouts in this series. Marcus Stroman takes the hill, and he’s 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA and five strikeouts this postseason. This is Stroman’s second career game against the Rangers.
The Rangers have proven they can get the job done in Toronto. The Rangers have also shown they can hang with the Blue Jays on the offensive side of the ball. For me, this game comes down to the pitching staff, and I have far more confidence in Hamels than I do Stroman, especially after Texas hit him well already.
Give me the Rangers to pull off the upset and advance.
