The Toronto Blue Jays visit AL East rival the Tampa Bay Rays on opening day Sunday.
The Toronto Blue Jays made a ton of changes at the trade deadline a season ago and virtually all worked out as the team was nearly unbeatable down the stretch on the way to their first AL East crown in over 20 years. For those that don’t follow the game that closely all we need to say this team will score a lot of runs and scored more then 120 more then any team in the game a year ago. With MVP Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion scoring won’t be an issue. Stopping opponents might be especially with the departure of star left hander David Price. Marcus Stroman will be called upon to help the rotation but with just 27 starts he has no long term numbers although we will get to see him on opening day.

The name of the game for the Tampa Bay Rays is getting solid pitching and defense and hoping the bats can squeeze out enough runs to win more often then not. The Rays possess great ‘D’ and a talented pitching staff but all that got them was 4th in the American League East although to be fair three starters began 2015 on the disabled list which is bad enough but even worse for a team that needs to control the scoreboard. The Rays added Steve Pearce, Logan Morrison, Corey Dickerson and Hank Conger to help boost their scoring with incumbent Evan Longoria manning third although I wonder how much of a boost we see. Chris Archer is the ace of a rotation that includes Matt Moore, Jake Odorizzi, Erasmo Ramirez and Drew Smyly with Alex Cobb due back midseason.
Tampa Bay faces their complete opposite in that Toronto will try to outscore them and Tampa Bay will try to win 3-2. We need a few weeks to actually see these teams play and no line has been released so please check back in what should be a good match up on the mound…
